Bucks keep semi final hopes alive with T20 wins

Published: Monday, 28 May 2018

Bucks kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Unicorns Counties T20 Championship with a double victory over Oxfordshire at Banbury on Sunday.
Having had to settle for one win and one loss in their opening round of matches against Berkshire, Bucks could not afford to slip up - and came up trumps with respective victories by 50 runs and 30 runs in their two matches against Oxfordshire after choosing to bat first.
In the first game, the visitors scored 155-7, Shelvin Gumbs top-scoring with 43 off 23 balls. They were given a flying start by Robin Pritchard and Masoor Khan, who added 40 in four overs.
Tidy spells from seamer Jonathan Burden (3-10 in three overs) and spinners Saif Zaib (2-22) and Uzair Amjaid restricted the hosts to 105-9 off their 20 overs.
The second game followed a similar pattern.
This time Bucks rattled up 170-4, Pritchard hitting 62 off 40 balls, while there useful contributions from Zaib (43) and Garry Park (36no).
Skipper Jonny Cater got off Oxon off to a brisk start, but no batsman played a major innings and they were all out for 140 off the final ball.
Cousins Zaib (3-17) and Amjaid (3-18) returned the best figures.
Bucks will be aiming to keep up their good form in this competition when they face Herefordshire in a double-header at High Wycombe this Sunday. The games start at 11am and 2.30pm.
