Bucks O60-1s beat Sussex by 58 runs (Bucks 294-3 / Sussex 236-6) at Horsham CC

Bucks O60-1s continued their revival following the return of Keith Wallis, this time with victory over Sussex at Horsham CC  after posting the season’s fourth highest total in this competition in almost fifty matches played to date.

Wallis’ opening partnership with John Rolfe was broken with the score at 211 when Wallis was lbw for a rapid 138 which included shots all around the wicket. Although promoted up the order,  Denzil Owen was temporarily indisposed (!) at the fall of the wicket, so Graham Keens kept up the tempo with 14 before making way for Owen who decided to force Rolfe into a series of 22 yard sprints (innings 36 overs old, weather 80+ degrees) before Rolfe finally expired to the last ball of the innings for 92, with Owen just warming up on 24 not out.

Sussex made a good fist of the chase which realistically only ended when John Connelly was well caught in the deep by Owen off David Brooker for 121 after which the Bucks bowlers kept Sussex in check. The bowlers took five wickets between them, a sixth being a run out by a significant distance from a powerful throw by guess who? -  Denzil Owen.

This gave Bucks their third victory of the season, with the last group match to be played against second placed Kent next Tuesday at High Wycombe CC.
