Over 60s 1st lose first match

In the opening match of the season, against Berkshire at Wraysbury, Bucks O60s 1st XI was asked to bat first on a green top and reached 152-1 when the second wicket fell in the 33rd over of 45. Only 49 more runs were scored however for the loss of six more wickets and the final total of 201-8 was twenty or thirty runs short of what was needed. No batsman except John Rolfe with 36 and Keith Wallis with an accomplished 88, made over 20.

Although David Brooker and Chris Johnson picked up two wickets relatively cheaply, Berkshire’s batting line up proved too powerful, with captain David Twoose (73) and Mark Simmons (45no) leading the way. Debutant left-arm seamer Bob Fryer bowled Brock with the score at 178 but Berkshire reached their target for the loss of four wickets with  3.4 overs to spare. Brooker was the pick of the bowlers with 1-31 off 9 overs while Denzil Owen’s throwing arm in the field is as strong as ever.

Bucks next face Wiltshire at Bledlow Village CC on Tuesday 14th May.
