Over 60s 1s in Bowl semi

Published: Wednesday, 15 August 2018

Bucks O60-1s progressed to the semi-final of the Bowl competition on a countback after a tense finish in which Bedfordshire levelled the scores on the last ball, exactly matching Bucks’ total of 152-9.
Playing their first game since April last year without talisman Denzil Owen, Bucks had moved to 70-1 in the first innings, but John Pothecary’s dismissal for 25 prompted a collapse to 77-5 with John Rolfe also dismissed, for 38. Mike Salmon with 28 and with support from Martin Sheffield (13) and Chris Johnson (16)  led a fightback which enabled Bucks to set a challenging target on a slow wicket.

Bucks Over 60s had contrasting fortunes in their two recent matches in the national over 60s competition.
They visited Wiltshire on 18th June and were able to complete the fixture on a day when most games were called off.  Against tight bowling, Bucks fought their way  to 158-6 in 45 overs thanks to Keith Wallis with 57 and John Pothecary with 42 not out. In reply Wiltshire’s Lerwell set the tone with a free flowing innings of 60 and although Matt Hind (9-1-23-3) bowled well on his return to the Bucks X1, Wiltshire got home with five wickets and  11 overs remaining.

Over 60s defeated again - Should sun have stopped play?!!

Published: Wednesday, 05 June 2019

Bucks Over 60s 1st team was defeated by unbeaten Hampshire, in a rain-affected match at High Wycombe, which strangely, was also affected by the evening sun.
Hampshire reached 250-8 off their allotted 45 overs thanks to 118 from Neil Trestrail and 51 from Ian Britton.  For Bucks, Jim Spooner took 3-47.
In reply Bucks were set an adjusted target of 168 off 30 overs and found themselves up against tight bowling and ground fielding.  Bucks battled to keep up with the run rate after Wallis departed for 22 and, in a game that ended at 8.40pm, were heavily handicapped at one end by the bright sun which set slowly over the sightscreens. In the event they did well to come within four boundaries of victory. John Rolfe was bowled by the last ball of the match for 67.

Over 60s 1st XI still to win

Published: Thursday, 23 May 2019

Bucks Over 60s 1st XI second and third matches both went to the last ball in tense encounters. When Wiltshire elected to bat at Bledlow Village they were pegged back but accelerated in the later stages to 194 all out from 44.5 overs despite figures of 4-52 by Bobbie Fryer. After the early loss of two wickets in reply, Bucks were in command until the third wicket partnership was broken with the dismissal of Pete Langford for 37. Thereafter the run chase rested almost entirely on the shoulders of England trialist Keith Willis. He took Bucks to the brink of victory – despite not one boundary being scored by any other batsman once Langford was out – until with his team 7 wickets down and requiring three runs to win, Wallis was dismissed for 96 off the last ball.
