On Friday 4 September Buckinghamshire U9 played Surrey U8/U9 at Headley CC

Buckinghamshire won the toss and decided to bat, being bowled out for 116 runs in 38.2 overs

Following a rocky start when the score after 7 overs was 9 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Tom Petrie played a very sensible innings, adding 29 runs for the fourth wicket with Freddie Thompson, 23 runs for the fifth wicket with Connor Thomas (9 runs) and 23 runs with Daniel Gates for the seventh wicket

Surrey made a good start scoring 23 runs without loss in eight overs. Connor Thomas then took three wickets in four balls, from that moment on Buckinghamshire dominated the game. The remaining seven wickets were all taken when the spinners were bowling, which included a run out, an lbw and a stumping. Elliot Klyne (Winchmore Hill CC) made a good debut behind the stumps

For such an inexperianced side this was a very good performance, with captain Freddie Thompson marshalling his troops like an experianced campaigner. All aspects of our game were way beyond what one would have expected from such an inexperianced side, who only played together for the first time four days previosely at the trial
